Marsilio dei Mainardini (late 1370s-1342) published his treatise on political philosophy in 1324; two years later he was forced to flee Nuremberg when it was condemned by the pope. Gewirth (philosophy, U. of Chicago) first translated the entire text into a modern language. He used C. W. Previté-Orton's 1928 edition and emended it from two other sources. Cary J. Nederman (political science, Texas A&M U.) contributes an afterword and a bibliography from 1950 to 2000.
