The class homework assignment is to write a story, and everyone seems to be writing about something interesting...except Arthur. Francine's story is funny, so Arthur adds some humor. Buster writes science fiction, so Arthur decides his story should take place on the moon. The Brain says research is important, so Arthur heads to the library. But by the time he's finished, Arthur's story is a mess! Arthur learns that maybe it's best to write about something that he cares about-like his dog, Pal!
Arthur's homework assignment is to write a story. He does this with great enthusiasm. He writes about how he got his puppy. His sister, D.W., is not impressed. Arthur modifies his story to include some of his sister's and friend's ideas. He gets so carried away that he includes a song and dance. When he tries it out on his family, they are a little confused. At school, his friends and teacher give him some good advice and he realizes that his original story idea was really a very good one.
