This book provides an excellent review and update on ultrasound imaging related to the abdomen, including the standard solid organs, vascular system and alimentary tract. In somewhat of an unorthodox mix of subjects, this book also contains topics under the descriptive term ""superficial structures."" Thus, this work also describes the use of ultrasound related to the neck, breast, scrotum, prostate, spine, and musculoskeletal systems. This second edition updates the interval technological developments related to this rapidly changing field. Sonographers in training will find a complete review of the topics covered. Although the book may be somewhat daunting at first to beginners, the depth of knowledge obtained by forging through this book will be well worth their efforts. Experienced sonographers will find this edition a nice update and a valuable review of sonographic findings related to the abdomen and superficial structures. The author has blended the efforts of many contributors to produce an excellent, clinically oriented work. The use of anatomy, basic physiology, pathology, and some pathophysiology combine to produce complete coverage of each area. There are numerous high-quality images that complement the well-written text. Nicely detailed line drawings are also used to provide illustration. Numerous, up-to-date references are also present at the end of each chapter. This work will be a well-used source in an institution's library for sonographers.
