When Mordred announces a three-day weekend for DSA, Wiglaf and hisfriends (including his Pig Latin speaking pig, Daisy) are off to Erica's castle. But when they arrive, they discover that Erica's father, King Ken, has come down with a horrible case of liver pox. The wizard Zelnoc manages to cure the king's pox, but as with all the wizard's spells, there's a magical mishap. Now, King Ken can only speak in Pig Latin! Can Zelnoc fix his mistake, or is there a better chance that pigs will fly?
Wiglaf and his friends are back at Dragon Slayers' Academy, a boarding school for young apprentice dragon slayers. The headmaster has given everyone several days off school to visit home. Wiglaf's friend, Erica, has invited him to join her at her parents' castle. Erica's "Mumsy and Popsy" are Queen Barb and King Ken. On the way to the castle, they encounter a fortune-telling minstrel and a basilisk bearing gold coins. When they arrive, all is not well at the royal dwelling and Erica, Wiglaf, and his pet pig, Daisy, must save King Ken from the pox, a slug-throwing doctor and a wizard with an attitude. Daisy's knowledge of herbs proves to be invaluable despite the fact that this pig can only speak Pig Latin. Fast paced action and silly characters add up to a lot of fun. The dialogue is modern with 'tis and 'twas scattered around for good measure. It is a goofy, light-hearted version of Harry Potter. This title is part of Grosset and Dunlap's "Dragon Slayers' Academy" series which includes The New Kid at School, Revenge of the Dragon Lady and Class Trip to the Cave of Doom. 2005, Grosset and Dunlap, Ages 6 to 9.
