A bilingual collection of popular Christmas songs from Latin America, illustrated to depict the Hispanic culture's rich and exuberant holiday celebrations.
Twelve Christmas songs from Central and South American tradition, arranged chronologically from Christmas Eve to Epiphany, with Spanish and English texts. Melody lines and guitar chords are appended. The illustrations depict Latin Americans preparing food, making music, carving, or celebrating the holidays. Brief paragraphs explain what is going on, where the depicted event takes place, other countries with slightly different but similar traditions, and the significance of these events. Delacre uses vivid pastels, paint, and colored pencil to show typical landscapes, homes, plazas, and the people of Latin America. While the book will certainly help Hispanics recall their rich holiday heritage, it reads less successfully in English as the translations are not in rhyme.
